Grant Opportunity Spotlight: KeyBank Community Sponsorships for Churches and Nonprofits

ree

If you’re a church, nonprofit, or small organization looking to make a meaningful impact in your community, KeyBank’s Community Sponsorships program could be a perfect opportunity. With rolling funding from $500 to $5,000, this grant opportunity for churches and nonprofits is designed to support initiatives that create stronger, safer, and more inclusive neighborhoods, provide educational opportunities, and help adults develop the skills they need to thrive in today’s workforce.

Who Can Benefit?

Churches and nonprofits often serve as the backbone of their communities, providing support for families, youth, and local businesses. Community Sponsorships can help fund programs like after-school tutoring, job training workshops, small business mentoring, family support programs, or neighborhood improvement projects. Essentially, if your organization is working to improve access, opportunity, or stability for people in your community, this program could be a fit.

Focus Areas

KeyBank organizes Community Sponsorships into three main focus areas:

  • Neighbors: Grants in this category support initiatives that build safe, healthy, and affordable communities. Programs that help families become economically self-sufficient, provide stable housing, or grow small businesses are especially encouraged. Churches might use this funding to run financial literacy classes, home-repair programs, or community wellness initiatives.

  • Education: Education grants are intended to help students in high school or higher education prepare for fulfilling careers. Nonprofits could use these funds to support tutoring programs, scholarship funds, or career-preparation workshops.

  • Workforce: Workforce grants help adults develop skills and knowledge to succeed in current and future employment opportunities. This could include vocational training, resume workshops, or certification programs offered through your organization.

Timing and Application Tips

Community Sponsorships are accepted from January through the end of October. Applications are not accepted in November or December, so planning ahead is key. KeyBank notes that the review process can take up to 90 days, so it’s recommended to submit your application at least two months before you need a decision. If your event or program happens in the first quarter of the year, make sure to submit by the end of October.

Eligibility

Organizations that serve individuals or small businesses in communities where KeyBank has a retail presence are eligible. Unfortunately, funding is not available for individuals, religious programs for religious purposes, political or lobbying activities, athletic teams, booster clubs, or organizations outside the United States.
